The chairman reported that the committee, which also includes Brian C. (vice-Chairman) and Betty (Programme Secretary), had worked hard during the year to provide a varied programme of events and to administer the Club’s business.  The programme for 2012 was made available to the members and the committee announced that we had extended the club year beyond April to include two more meetings to be held in May.

After the formalities of the AGM, members shared photographs that they had taken during the summer months. These consisted of a rich variety of subject matter, both prints and digital images, which we enjoyed viewing and discussing. Here are a few of the digital images we looked at:

The Camera Club and Sherborne School have been invited to supply a series of photos depicting landmarks of the town which are to be displayed at Sherborne Station.

These images, illustrated here, have been printed on 60cm x 60cm marine ply and have now been mounted on the walls along the west-bound platform 2 of the station.

These are semi-permanent, weather-proof, vandal-proof displays which form a welcoming and informative series of illustrations to passengers and visitors to the town.

Let’s hope they’ll still be there in another 150 years time!

The event was accompanied by a photographic competition open to both adults and children and the entries were judged by members of the club.

The four open sections are monochrome print, colour print, transparency and digital projected image.    Plenty of scope, so have a go.

Your roving reporter went to see it on Monday at the Natural History Museum, South Kensington, London.    I  thoroughly recommend it.   There is an entry fee of £9 which is expensive.   However the rest of the museum is so crowded and noisy that if it was open to all they would need to do some kind of staggered queue so that one could see the pictures easily.

The photographs are amazing – particularly those of the younger generation.   The method of showing them backlit makes a really great impact.   The reproductions on paper unfortunately cannot compete but do remind one of the real (which is real?) photo exhibit.    I bought a few postcards but my favourite photo of all – the winning black and white picture of starling flocks – had sold out.   It was really worth the trip to London to see it – hope you can go too.   It should also be coming to Bristol at some point – will keep you informed.

NB:    Deadline for entries is Monday 29th March 2010 – so get printing!

We were given the small room to stage a photography exhibition. We filled the room with photos, both mounted and loose prints.

We had photos on the stand, on the tables, all over the window sills and even propped up on the piano.

Some photos were for sale and visitors were invited to help themselves to the loose prints in exchange for a donation.

In all we raised £33.50 in aid of the village hall.
