Meeting 25 September Tolpuddle Martyrs
Rob Curtis, a noted local historian, gave us a fascinating illustrated talk this evening on the story of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, the six agricultural labourers who were the precursors of the modern Trades Union movement. Rob described the conditions in 19th century England where workers’ wages were below subsistence levels, with limited job opportunities and high prices for basic foods.

Sherborne In Bloom – South West In Bloom Awards
The South West In Bloom awards were held at the Tregenna Castle Hotel, St Ives, Cornwall on Thursday 20 September. Over 3oo representatives from cities, towns and villages across the South West attended for the regional awards presentations.
